    Going about our daily lives in Sausalito, we often don’t really see the landscape around us–but when paying attention, we appreciate the majesty of the trees along Bridgeway, the succulents at the Post Office, the shade of the trees while shopping on Caledonia. The potential beauty of these green spaces have been seen for years, but only through the actions of Sausalito Beautiful did they become reality.

    Sausalito Beautiful provides a mechanism and channel for those dreams that you dream for your community. Start a beautification project in your neighborhood, join the Green Thumbs group in beautifying our public green spaces, donate to our current project. Together we can give shape to Sausalito’s boldest dreams, highest ideals, and noblest causes.

  • We advocate for good design.

    Sausalito Beautiful promotes discussions and offers solutions regarding landscape architecture and urban planning. Our goal is to ensure that Sausalito’s public green spaces meet high standards in look, feel, and livability.

    We support simplicity, utility, and balance in design. Plantings should be sustainable and resilient so that they are healthy for years to come. Often that means native plants, but not necessarily exclusively.

    Sausalito Beautiful has served as a catalyst for good design through a well-considered vision and perseverance. We are proud to report that as the result of our partnership with the City and broad support from residents, businesses and local organizations, we have been able to affect the design of many public spaces including Caledonia Street, MLK Park, and Southview Park.

  • We create deep roots.

    Just as tree roots are pivotal to a healthy ecosystem, we believe that deep social roots are critical to a healthy community. Sausalito Beautiful brings together neighborhood leaders, civic-minded citizens, outdoor enthusiasts, environmentalists, City staff, and community leaders with a common goal of improving our city’s public green infrastructure.

    Our focus is on the public streetscapes, parks, medians, public staircases and walkways that connect and build community. We also support residents, businesses, and organizations in implementing their own beautification projects. By building pride, respect and cohesion across the city, our organization creates deep roots.

    In this era of climate change awareness, we have embarked on a city-wide tree planting campaign because trees create the largest and longest lasting impact on public greenspaces. In fact, in the past few years we have planted over 100 trees in our parks and main thoroughfares. These long-lived trees will create shade, improve our air, sequester carbon, and bolster our mental outlook. Both literally and figuratively, our roots in the community run deep.

  • We promote civic pride.

    Hugging the shimmering bay and nestled against vast mountainous open space, Sausalito is blessed with natural beauty, but efforts by the citizenry can augment that beauty. Everyone in Sausalito can contribute to beauty in their life by supporting our public green spaces.

    We believe that attractive, well-maintained parks and streetscapes are essential to livability and civic pride. As an organization, we aim to build pride, respect and cohesion across our city. We promote a welcoming, safe, and resilient community. Our intent is to build civic responsibility and ensure social participation in shaping our quality of life.

    We stay involved with the Planning Commission, City Council, Parks & Recreation Commission, General Plan–ensuring that our greenspaces are protected and improved. Beautification creates a palpable pride of place.The spirit behind beauty is contagious. If a place is beautiful, everyone sees what is possible. Working together encouragement of a community-wide culture of responsibility.

  • Your dollars create collective impact.

    Sausalito Beautiful mobilizes your community and collaborates with City staff to plant trees, restore historic parks, install drought tolerant native plantings, and beautify streetscapes–with sustainability and resilience being our primary goals. We ask for your support but realize that not everyone can donate their time. Your financial contributions, now matter how small, always make a difference.

    We believe that beautiful, well-maintained landscapes are essential to livability, civic pride and economic viability. Our motto, “Together we make Sausalito Beautiful,” reflects our commitment to creating that collective impact.
