Green Thumbs: Johnson Street Trees
September 26 @ 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Volunteer Workday: Light pruning and tree well cleanup
Originally funded by generous neighbors and planted in 2017, these beloved trees are ready for their next round of care. Sausalito Beautiful is raising funds to support professional pruning and canopy shaping in spring 2027, following volunteer cleanup and tree well improvements this fall.
Every contribution helps keep this neighborhood streetscape healthy, beautiful, and thriving.
We will be doing some light pruning of the lower branches of the Flowering Plum trees that obstruct the sidewalk and when getting out of cars. We will also clean up about 7 of the tree wells and add some stones to prevent erosion.
The event will take place on September 26th, at 9:30 a.m. and go until about Noon. We will meet at the corner of Bonita and Johnson street.
Here is what we will work on:
– Weed about 7 tree wells.
– Add some bricks and rocks for erosion control to some of the upper, steeper tree wells.
– Perform some light pruning of lower branches of the trees.
– Remove some unneeded support poles.
This is in preparation for the next step to plant some ground cover later in the fall, and have the treetops shaped.
We will also be asking for donations so we can then hire a tree company to shape the upper “crown” of the Flowering Plum trees after they bloom.
Please email greenthumbs@sausalitobeautiful.org to let us know if you can make it, it helps with planning the tools to bring. I look forward to seeing you with your gloves on!
