Support Our Work in 2024

December 14, 2023

Dear Friend of Sausalito Beautiful,

Thank you for your continued support of Sausalito Beautiful. Without you, we would not exist!

We are posting this letter to share the strides we have made to enhance and preserve the beauty of our beloved town, and to request your support for our ongoing efforts.

Have you seen the seven newly planted street trees on Caledonia Street? Or after six years, the repaired sidewalk and brickwork on Bridgeway in front of Barrel House?

After months of tirelessly knocking on doors, writing letters to secure property owners, retailers, and City approval, offering funding, and coordinating with contractors, we were able to complete these projects. They are just a few examples of how we put your donations to work in 2023.

Sausalito Beautiful believes that attractive parks and streetscapes are essential to our civic pride, and create a vibrant and sustainable place to live, work, and play.

Our City has many competing priorities, and our green infrastructure is not often at the top of the list. With your support, we can continue to advocate for funding of our public green spaces while rolling up our sleeves to perform much of the work ourselves.

In 2023, we achieved the following:

  • Planted seven new trees on Caledonia Street: In October, we fully funded the planting and first-year maintenance of seven new street trees on Caledonia at a cost of $37,000. This included purchasing the trees and grates, cutting the sidewalk, enhancing the soil, planting and stabilizing the trees, labor, and watering the trees for at least one year.
  • Fixed sidewalk next to Barrel House: After six years, the tree stump, buckling sidewalk, broken bricks, and orange cones are gone! In May, we facilitated the deal to fix the sidewalk and brick mosaic and paid for one third of the cost, $4,300, to get it done.
  • Launched new Adopt-a-Park program: Our new Adopt-a-Park program mobilizes local neighborhood leaders and volunteers to improve our parks. Working with the City Parks team, volunteers regularly meet to weed, mulch and plant.
  • Organized Green Thumbs workdays: Our volunteers regularly cleaned up our parks and greenspaces including: Cloudview, Langendorf, Southview, Tiffany, the Police & Fire Station, the Post Office, and Johnson Street trees.
  • Brightened Sausalito’s parks & greenspaces with Daffodils: In early December, 15+ volunteers planted over 1,000 bulbs at Dunphy Park, Langendorf Park, MLK Park, and at the Post Office.

In 2024, your donation will help us continue to:

  • Champion for our street trees: Continue to advocate and partially fund the planting and maintenance of street trees. Not only are they beautiful, but trees make the longest and largest impact on our public greenspaces by reducing the effects of global warming.
  • Improve our parks and streetscapes: While continuing to facilitate our new Adopt-a-Park program, we will focus on projects that improve our downtown greenspaces and streetscapes.
  • Advocate for more City funding: Continue our efforts to get the City Council to allocate more funding for our trees, parks, and public spaces.

We are 100 percent donor funded, and our work would simply not be possible without your help. Please support Sausalito Beautiful in 2024 by helping us reach our fundraising goal of $50,000.
