Our Impact in 2022 & Goals for 2023

Dear Friend of Sausalito Beautiful,

We couldn’t do it without you!

You and your fellow volunteers and donors make Sausalito’s parks, streets and greenspaces healthy, sustainable, and resilient… and best of all, BEAUTIFUL!

Please consider making an end-of-year donation to Sausalito Beautiful. Our goal is to raise $35,000 to fund the on-going planting of trees, improvement of our parks, and strategic planning for our changing environment.

Last year, with $32,000 donated by the Sausalito community, we achieved our top goals:

  • Led the Greening of Southview Park: Starting in 2020, Sausalito Beautiful initiated the park’s landscape design, helped raise money to fund its installation, and advocated for the completion of the landscape plan. We are thrilled to report that the park celebrated its grand opening in September!
  • Beautified MLK Park With Trees & Shrubs: Sausalito Beautiful volunteers planted an additional 40 trees and shrubs on the inside of the walking path at Sausalito’s largest park, complementing the 90+ others planted in 2019. This project was 100% funded through community donations, furthering our vision of a tree-lined park that provides shade, mitigates climate change, increases pollinator habitat, and enhances the beauty of the neighborhood. The MLK Tree donors were recognized with an on-site plaque, and their memorial trees identified on our website.
  • Supported the Marin City-Sausalito Tunnel Art Project: We celebrated the completion of this long-awaited project in November. Sausalito Beautiful was instrumental in getting this project off the ground by serving on the five-person Steering Committee, offering the initial grant to fund its design and adding additional funds as it developed. This project along the walkway under highway 101 symbolizes the connection between two historic Marin County communities and celebrates the unification of our public schools.
  • Helped save the School Garden Program: Helped fund the continuation of the garden program at our K-8 public schools for the 2022 – 2023 school year.
  • Brightened Sausalito’s Parks & Schools with Daffodils: In early December, 20+ volunteers planted over 1,000 bulbs at Dunphy Park and the campuses of our public schools.
  • Improved & Cleaned Up Numerous Public Spaces: Our Green Thumbs volunteers weeded, trimmed, planted, and mulched a variety of public sites including the Post Office, Southview Park, Johnson Street Trees, and MLK Park.

In 2023, our goal is to raise $35,000. We will focus on:

  • Additional planting of trees on Bridgeway, Caledonia, and Princess Streets
  • Continued funding of impactful improvements in our parks
  • Planning strategically for drought, sea level rise, and population growth

But we need your help! As many of you know, the City has had numerous budget cuts, many of which affect the funding for the city’s Parks and Recreation projects.

With your support, we can continue to partner with the City to find new, cost-effective ways to maintain and improve our public greenspaces and supplement their work with financial support and our team of volunteers.

Please consider making a contribution to our efforts – we are 100% donor-funded, and our work would simply not be possible without your support.

Thank you for your consideration and we hope to see you in 2023,

Sincerely,

Morgan Pierce, President

Lise Ciolino, Vice President
